Find Your Shoe Size – This is Your Optimal Shoe Size
Properly fitting shoes are the basic prerequisite for healthy feet and a comfortable wearing experience. That's why it's important to know your correct shoe size. Even if you've bought shoes many times before, you may not always have chosen the right size. At Libeau, we are experts when it comes to shoes and are happy to help you: With our tips and tricks, you can now easily find your correct shoe size so that your shoes will fit perfectly in the future.
How Shoe Sizes Are Determined
As with other clothing items, shoes naturally have sizes that should help you find a suitable pair when buying. Although shoe size is based on foot length, shoe width can also be relevant if you have particularly narrow or wide feet. Ideally, you should determine both measurements to find the right shoes.
While many other measurements in Germany are standardized, this is not the case for shoes – or for other clothing items, for that matter. Sizes can therefore vary slightly depending on the provider, which can make determining the correct shoe size more difficult. Keep this in mind if you are unsure when buying. Ultimately, it's not about the correct number, but about the shoes fitting well and neither pinching nor being too loose.
The topic of shoe size becomes even more complicated when you look internationally, as other countries use different systems. However, with our Libeau shoe size chart, which you can find below, you can easily convert international sizes.
Why it's important to determine the optimal shoe size
Even though it can vary from provider to provider, you should know your shoe size. Because if your shoes don't fit properly, it can have negative consequences. If you choose the wrong size, the shoes can pinch or rub, causing blisters and pressure points. Of course, you want to avoid that at all costs!
But it's not just pain that can be avoided by choosing the optimal shoe size. General foot health also benefits: If you wear shoes that don't fit properly for a long period, it can disrupt your movement and lead to misalignments. In addition, the correct shoe size promotes a healthy posture and thus prevents back or knee problems. Enough reasons to find your optimal shoe size and only buy well-fitting shoes in the future!
How to find your shoe size
Determining your ideal shoe length and width is not difficult at all. Below, we'll give you a few helpful tips to quickly find your perfect size.
Using the size of well-fitting shoes
To find your shoe size, you can first look inside the shoes you already own. Do you have a pair that fits you particularly well? Perhaps you can still find the shoe size in the shoe or on the sole. Using your own shoes as a guide is a good approach, for example, if you don't have a tape measure at home.
Keep in mind that sizes can vary depending on the manufacturer – for example, it's entirely possible that shoes from manufacturer A fit you in size 38, but the same size from manufacturer B might be too small or too large.
How to measure shoe size
Even better than relying on your previous shoe purchases is to measure your shoe size. With the help of our Libeau shoe size chart, you can then easily find your shoe size. But how exactly do you measure shoe size?
Finding out your shoe size
To determine your shoe size, you will need a tape measure, a pen, and a piece of paper.
- Place your feet on the paper – it's best to sit on a chair for this.
- Now trace the outline of your feet with a pen.
- Next, measure the distance on your drawing between your heel and the tip of your big toe.
- Don't forget to measure both feet – it can happen that feet are different sizes.
- Now use a shoe size chart to determine your exact size. You are welcome to use our Libeau size chart, which you will find a little further down on this page.
Determining Shoe Width
In addition to shoe size, shoe width can also be relevant for you. If your shoes are often too narrow or you have too much space on the sides, it could be that your feet are particularly narrow or wide. In this case, you should buy shoes that accommodate these characteristics. Shoe widths are indicated by letters from F ½ to M. A women's shoe width of F means that the feet are very narrow. With a size K or M, you need very wide shoes; shoe widths G and H are in the middle range.
To determine your shoe width, you need to measure your ball girth. This refers to the circumference of your foot at the ball line, which is the wide part of your foot right behind your toes. It's best to have someone else help you with this.
- Place the tape measure on the floor and stand on it with one foot. The measuring unit should face the floor.
- Position the tape measure so that it is exactly under the widest part of the ball of your foot.
- Distribute your weight evenly on both feet to avoid distorting the result.
- Now wrap the tape measure around your foot to determine the circumference.
- Now use our table to determine your shoe width.
Optimal shoe size can vary by brand
When buying shoes online, it's best not to rely on a general size chart, but rather to consult the size charts of the respective manufacturer. These are more accurately tailored to their shoes. Our chart, for example, perfectly matches our exclusive women's shoes that we offer here in the shop – take a look and discover elegant high heels, boots, sandals, and flats in all their diverse forms. How to tell if a shoe fits well
You've found your shoe size using our tips and ordered a new pair of shoes? Then you should still try them on immediately and check if it's actually the right size for you. You can tell if the shoes really fit by these factors:
- You feel comfortable in the shoes: Walk a bit in your new shoes and pay attention to whether they pinch or rub anywhere. If the shoes are a little tight, it's quite possible that they will stretch a bit after wearing them several times. However, if they are clearly too tight, you should send them back.
- There's enough room in the front: Your toes definitely need enough room in the front, because when you roll your foot, your feet push forward a bit. You should have at least a thumb's width of space between your toes and the tip of the shoe.
- You don't slip out of the shoes: In addition to shoes that are too tight, it can, of course, also happen that your shoes are too big. Make sure that your new pair fits well on your foot when walking and that you don't slip out. If the shoes don't fit properly, it can be dangerous, especially with high heels – you risk twisting your ankle.
